Sashiko Craft Apron with Caroline Barley Saturday 1st Fabruary 2025
Watch this video from Caroline to see what you might make.
Join Caroline in a sashiko workshop. Create a handy craft half-apron, sewn on the machine and embellished by hand with a range of sashiko patterns. Stitch with the kiku (chrysanthemum symbol) or from a range of other sashiko designs that Caroline will provide. Don't want to use a sewing machine, buy your apron here, sew by hand or even just make a sample square.
The chrysanthemum was originally imported from China and has a strong presence in many aspects of Japanese life and design. The yellow flower symbolises the sun and the light (immortality). The Japanese have proclaimed the chrysanthemum as their national symbol and celebrate the 'Festival of Happiness' every year in honour of the chrysanthemum.
Choose your fabrics and threads to coordinate or make a statement. This apron comes with a large front pocket, always useful when sewing and crafting.
Learn a little about Japanese culture, seasonal influences and hear about Caroline's experiences of her time spent living in Japan where she studied with skilled craftspeople.
