We are a puppy partner for Dogs For Good, and our sponsored puppy Zuri is now 11 months old!
We’ve received an update on her progress from Judy, her socialiser. Judy writes “Zuri is maturing into a very lovable and well behaved dog. She has a beautiful glossy coat that people always comment on. Like all young pups she is excited when she meets new people but this is only because she is still learning and desperately wants to please everyone and be their friend. She loves children and makes herself small by flattening to the ground when she meets them, a trick she invented herself! We can see that Zuri is exceptionally bright and quick to learn. Her favourite toy is her ball but she also has a box of soft toys and other things that she brings us to play with in the evenings. We also have interactive games, she loves her food so needless to say she has no problem in working out how to get the treats. She likes roaming the garden an exploring, and of course eating! Her behaviour when out and about at events and in the public eye is very good and she is a lovely affectionate girl, I’m very proud of her. She loves going out on her daily free runs and playing with all her doggie pals at the local park.
We have visited lots of places, the usual weekly shopping trips to a variety of shops, visiting family and friends, cafe’s and restaurants. She has also accompanied me on several charity talks and visits, most notably the Cornbury Music Festival, where she helped on the Dogs For Good stand and wandered with us round the site as we talked about the charity to the festival crowds; her behaviour was excellent, as always.”
We love following Zuri’s progress, and we hope you do to. Our next update will be in a couple of months time when Zuri is around 13 months.

These adorable little fuzzy, white-tailed bumble bees cause such a buzz around the office of Tudor Rose Patchwork that I just had to have a go.
Alison Cremona of Felt and Dandy was the tutor for the day and she guided us through the process of creating our own unique bumble bees. We followed a guide that showed us the specific stripes of each bee, and taking big tufts of felt we began stabbing away. I had to be careful and keep my fingers far away from the special barbed felting needle, but when your stabbing away at a tiny little felt bee it’s inevitable that you stab yourself…. OUCH!
After a little while of stabbing away, my bumble bee started to take shape and shortly after it was time to trim around it and add the legs and wings. After the bees all had their legs and wings it was time to do some reverse felting. This involved a different needle that brought the felt back out of the shape you had just so well stabbed together, however by bringing the felt out it created the cute fuzzy appeal that made these bees so adorable in the first place. Once all 3 bumble bees were finished we got the frame and words and started to assemble our entomological display.
Alison brought along lots of little accessories that could be added if we wished. Some of the class decided to leave their bees simple; I however wanted to add some sparkles so I chose a crown and some flowers to add.
These adorable little fuzzy, white tailed bumble bees now take pride of place in my craft room.
There’s another Bumble Bee Family felting day coming up in September, although if bees aren’t your thing, Felt and Dandy will also be here running other felting workshops throughout the year, click here to see them all.

Giving something back……
This month we are pleased to support the following events: on Wednesday 12th June Frances Bulmer was joined by some generous folks to make heart shaped cushions which help with pain relief for breast cancer patients at the Primrose unit in Bedford. CLICK HERE to find out how you can help next time.
Also on the weekend of 15th/16th June Chris & Kate will be undertaking their annual 24 hour Charity Sewathon, this year they and their band of helpers will be making as many cushion covers as possible which will be donated to a number of local care homes. They would really appreciate donations of fabric or squares to make the cushions which can be dropped off at Tudor Rose Patchwork.

Purple Boots has been busy at her sewing machine this month making a gift for her cousin.
A quilt was requested in shades of grey to match their baby decor. Take a look at the quirky foxes and cuddly bunnies Purple Boots created using applique and the repeating theme of a cheeky bird popping up in each square. She has gone though her scrap box looking for coordinating fabric to make the scrappy borders.
All those tiny little morsels work really well against the plainer borders. Because the family want a play mat rather than an heirloom quilt, the quilt has been backed with our supersoft dove grey dimple fleece. A little bit of embroidery brings each if the animals to life. All ready for new arrival!

We had great fun in the office this spring creating a time lapse video
for a new class – The Book Thief.
Watch as Purple Boots takes a simple lead sculpture – built around an
old book and using an armature to create a figure – and brings it to
life. Look carefully at all of the embellishments that are added in
each stage and the use of the blue Powertex to really make the book
pop. Old bits of lace, keys and string are combined with elements made
from self hardening clay to produce interesting effects. At some
points the details seem to vanish as the Powertex is applied to embed
them into the base.
Watch further and you will see the use of dry brushing techniques. The
smallest amount of pigment and Powertex’s own varnish create beautiful
end results. All those details which seemed to vanish are now
prominent again and we think the copper compliments the bright blue
beautifully. A perfect gift for any bookworm and a great decoration
for the mantle piece of any bookcase at home.
