It may be July, but if you’re planning Halloween crafts then now is the time to make a start. Then maybe you may have finished by *next* Halloween!
We’ve got some spooky new Halloween fabrics in stock, as well as a limited quantity of leftovers from last year. Plus this year we have stocked up on ribbon and buttons too. You can take a look at all our Halloween goodies here: https://www.tudorrosepatchwork.co.uk/all/halloween
There is also a new old pattern available for free . It’s a pattern that was designed several years ago by our dear friend Christine. It’s had a little revamp and is a great project to use up some scraps and introduce children to patchwork and sewing.
Designed by Caroline Alfreds for 3 Wishes, this new quality fabric is a must for making beautiful quilts and home décor accessories. Featuring a whimsical patchwork of folk fabrics with flowers and butterflies in deep greens and vibrant pinks it is just perfect for patchwork and quilting, tops and t-shirts requiring some structure, accessories and home decor.

We have a wide selection of fabrics suitable for Military Remembrance projects. Whether you prefer poppies or planes, take a look at some of our collection.
We have a wide selection of cotton poppies material, ranging from wonderfully colourful to the more traditional red on black. These are great for making structured tops for remembrance services, or fussy cutting and layering to make individual poppies.
If you’re looking to make some themed items for the gentleman in your life, or perhaps would just like a striking bag or cushion, then these vintage planes from the Remembering collection from Nutex may be more to your taste.
The oranges of dawn and sunset are so eye-catching, and a wonderful way to honour anyone you love who is associated with the RAF, or who loves historic airplanes.
The weather here has been so dreary that we can’t help thinking of Noah’s Ark. Nutex’s Little Noah collection of fabric and patterns has been very popular over the last few weeks, so we can’t be the only ones! As the drizzle continues, we’ve decided to take 10% off the whole collection, and we’ve thrown in a few other animal themed goodies too.
And we’ve also discounted Stylecraft’s Wondersoft Merry Go Round. 100% premium self-striping acrylic available in both brights and pastels. Only £3.60 per 100g and just perfect for baby and toddler knitting patterns.
Elizabeth’s Studio have some amazing digital print landscape fabrics – I’m sure you all have at least one fat quarter stashed away somewhere! 😂 😉
How about gathering up all those leftover landscapes and trying one of the free table runner patterns designed especially for this collection from the Elizabeth’s Studio extensive project gallery? I particularly like the summer version below, it really makes me want to hide from this cold weather somewhere more exotic.
Purple Boots has been busy at her sewing machine this month making a gift for her cousin.
A quilt was requested in shades of grey to match their baby decor. Take a look at the quirky foxes and cuddly bunnies Purple Boots created using applique and the repeating theme of a cheeky bird popping up in each square. She has gone though her scrap box looking for coordinating fabric to make the scrappy borders.
All those tiny little morsels work really well against the plainer borders. Because the family want a play mat rather than an heirloom quilt, the quilt has been backed with our supersoft dove grey dimple fleece. A little bit of embroidery brings each if the animals to life. All ready for new arrival!
Check out our range of neutrals on our website. Purple Boots has effectively used a combination of greys and whites. Look especially for Lewis & Irene Bumbleberries, Nutex Moko, Michael Miller Marbles and Sevenberry Marbles, all of which can be seen somewhere in this quilt!
Bev Mayo’s Block of the Month quilt is the ideal project to keep you busy throughout the coming year. The theme of this quilt is In My Garden, just the thing to lift your spirits during this cold weather. Just add your sewing machine and scissors and away you go.
Plus Bev has released an lovely new colourway for 2019, so even if you took part last year, you could make a companion quilt this year!

Sashiko is a form of Japanese folk embroidery which uses running stitch to create a beautiful textured patterned background. Originally used to create strong repairs and produce hard-wearing home textiles, the designs are now mostly used for decorative quilting.
I’ve become slightly obsessed with Sashiko stitching after purchasing some pre-printed fabric last year. It requires a minimal amount of equipment – you just need a long sashiko needle, cotton embroidery thread, and some indigo fabric. Something hard wearing, such as a linen, seems to work best. You can use a tradition white embroidery thread, but I’ve also had good results using pale coloured variegated threads. Anything that provides a contrast to the dark background looks amazing.
The simplicity of loading the needle with running stitches and then pulling through becomes almost like a form of meditation. I’ve yet to finish my completed panels into anything worthwhile, although bags, purses and cushions are quite appealing! Perhaps eventually I’ll complete enough to make into a quilt. Simple Sashiko by Susan Briscoe has some inspirational ideas, plus instructions and tips to make your first project a success.
Susan Briscoe recommends marking out your designs using tailors chalk, although this idea can be a little nerve-racking. Templates are available to make the process easier, and work just like a stencil. Sew Easy have a great value starter kit available which contains fabric, templates, thread, needles, and a fabric pencil to mark it all out with, which seems a much simpler option.
You can find it here, along with many other Sashiko options and tools – https://goo.gl/ie8Ktw
